Rules and Regulations

Sylhet Agricultural University Library is located in the centre of the campus. The library was established in an academic building in 2006. At present this library offers services to 2000 students, 200 teachers, 125 officers & 190 staffs. The library has about 8000 books and 2500 journals in service and about 1500 books are under process of service. There are provision for online journal subscription, e-book service and other modern library services within the campus by using high speed network backbone & high bandwidth internet connectivity.      
 

Rules of lending books:

(a) University students of Degree Classes (Under Graduate students): shall be entitled to borrow (two) volumes (books of General Stack) at a time for a period of 14 (fourteen) days. They shall not be entitled to draw any journal from the Library. Borrowing facilities may be allowed to the final year students in respect of supplementary examinations. Results of such students shall not published by the Controller of Examinations until receipt of clearance from the Library.

(b) University students of Master’s Degree Classes (Graduate students): shall be entitled to borrow 5 (five) volumes (books of General Stack) at a time for a period of 14 (fourteen) days. They shall not be entitled to draw any journal from the Library.

(c) Ph.D. Students: shall be entitled to borrow 7(Seven) volumes (books of General Stack) at a time for a maximum period of 30 (thirty) days. They may, however, draw bound volumes of journals not exceeding 5 (five) volumes at a time for a period of 7 (seven) days, only when there are special needs for research purposes on recommendation of their supervisors.

(d)  University students: shall be entitled to borrow textbooks maximum of 5 volumes at a time for period of one academic session on deposit of rents.

(e) Scientific Officers /Research Officers/Fellows: shall enjoy equal facilities as admissible for the Ph.D. students, on receipt of written recommendation from the Principal Investigator, subject to the availability of books.

  1. Prof. Emeritus, Professors, Asso. Professors Asstt. Professors Lecturers.

(i) Textbooks:

Maximum of 5 (five) books at a time for a period of 3 (three) months.

(ii) Books of General Stacks:

Maximum of 10 volumes at a time for a period of 3 (three) months.

(iii) Bound volumes of journals:

Maximum of 6 volumes at a time for a period of 10 (ten) days.

b. Honorary & Part-time Teachers on the recommendation from the relevant heads of Departments.

Maximum of 10 volumes at a time for a period of 6 (six) weeks.

c. Officers of the University.

Maximum of 5 (five) books at a time for a period of 30 (thirty) days. When exigencies of situation demand, Librarian may use the discretion in issuing them such number of books for such a period as may be considered necessary for official purposes.

d. Members of the regular staff above the rank of MLSS and below that of an Officer.

3 (three) books at a time for a period of 2 (two) weeks. Such persons shall be registered as Library Borrowers only on recommendation of the Head of the Department/ Section concerned.

e. MLSS (Regular)

2 (two) books at a time for a period of 2 (two) weeks subject to such restriction about the kind of books to be borrowed as may be determined by the Librarian.
