Md. Motaher Hossain obtained his Ph.D degree in Fisheries Science from University of Dhaka in 2008. He received B. Sc Fisheries (Hons) in 1986 and his M.Sc. degree in Fisheries Technology from Bangladesh Agricultural University with First class in 1988. He started his career as Scientific Officer in Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute from 1990 to1991. He left BFRI in December 1991 and joined in Bangladesh Civil Service cadre in the Dept. of Fisheries in different positions from 1991 to 2013. He has long experiences in the Section of Fish Inspection and Quality Control having different positions including FIQC Laboratory official under the Dept. of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He also left BCS cadre service job in October 2013 and joined as an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Fisheries Technology and Quality Control at Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh in 2013. He is still contributing his long experiences of previous job in FIQC section of the Department of Fisheries to the academic field of the FTQC department of Sylhet Agricultural University. He has been promoted as Professor in 2017 and works till date. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Department of Fisheries Technology and Quality Control twice during his tenure. He supervised about 26 MS students of the Department of Fisheries Technology and Quality Control and evaluated about 28 MS theses/ dissertation and also reviewed several scientific papers and peer reviewed articles during his tenure so far. He attended multiple trainings and workshops regarding food safety in the USA, Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam. Besides, he visited Dubai, Saudi Arabia, India, Qatar, and Italy for other activities and academic purposes. He also attended the numerous (more than 100) national and international seminars, conferences regarding fisheries and other related subject matters and received multiple in-country trainings regarding food safety, EU rules and regulations, ISO-9001, 17025 and 22000, foundation training, research planning etc. He was appointed as a Provost of Shah A M S Kibria Hall from April 2018 to July 2020 and also acted as Convener of Provost Council of Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet from January 2020 to July 2020. He was also appointed as Director (Farm) of Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet from August 2021 to January 2024. He is the life member of 10(ten) different professional societies. He is also serving as President, Governing body of Naori Adorsha Degree College, Matlab Uttar, Chandpur from October/2024 till date being appointed from National University, Bangladesh. He has 45 articles and scientific papers in various scientific journals at home and abroad. As an academic, he has completed 8 (eight) food safety related scientific projects being the Principal Investigator. So, he has gathered versatile and dynamic experiences like administration, research, extension and teaching etc. His research primarily focuses on food safety, HACCP, fisheries microbiology, fish processing, value added fishery products development etc.
