Biography
Dr. Md. Abdullah-Al-Mamun is a Professor in the Fish Health Management Department at the Faculty of Fisheries, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet-3100, Bangladesh. He recently completed his postdoctoral research under the SUPERTROUT project, titled “Insights on the host-pathogen interaction between rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Lactococcus garvieae/L. petauri during experimental or spontaneous infection”, in the Laboratory of Immunology and Pathology, Department of Agricultural, Food, Environmental, and Animal Sciences (DI4A) at the University of Udine (UNIUD), Italy, where his research involved histology and basic immunohistochemistry; bacterial culture and enumeration, and ELISA for the detection of specific IgM after infection or vaccination; determination of non-specific immune parameters such as lysozyme, antiprotease, bactericidal activity, peroxidase, total protein, total immunoglobulin, agglutination, and blood cell counts via blood smear slides. Dr. Mamun earned his Ph.D. in Fish Vaccination in 2019 from the College of Fisheries, Mangalore, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, India. His doctoral research, supported by the Netaji Subhas International Fellowship from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), focused on the validation of a biofilm-based oral vaccine of Aeromonas hydrophila in striped catfish. Over his career, Prof. Dr. Mamun has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on numerous projects funded by the Sylhet Agricultural University Research System (SAURES) and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Bangladesh. He has delivered invited talks at international conferences and has specialized expertise in fish immunology, disease management, and aquatic animal health. He also led a workshop on ‘Hands-on Training: Fish Parasitology,’ in collaboration with the International Parasite Resource Bank, South Korea. Prof. Dr. Mamun has published 52 research articles in leading international journals (Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Taylor & Francis), contributed to two book chapters, and authored one book. His passion for academic excellence drives him to continue exploring new frontiers in aquatic animal health management.
