Biography

Currently, Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman is doing Post-Doctoral Research, holding the most prestigious Post-doctoral fellowship "JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan" at Gifu University, Japan. Concurrently, Dr. Rahman is working as an Assistant Professor, Department of (Veterinary) Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary, Animal, and Biomedical Sciences, Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman obtained his PhD degree in the field of small extracellular vesicle-based monitoring of clinical stage of high-risk cattle of bovine leukemia virus from the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Gifu University in March 2022 with excellent academic performance holding the prestigious President Award of Gifu University. Dr. Rahman had a fascinating and outstanding academic career in Bangladesh, holding the Prime Minister Gold Medal Award-2013 for the position of “First class First with Distinction” in undergraduate degree (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) and University Prize-2018 for his outstanding result (First Position in undergraduate study). Dr. Rahman is a molecular biologist and small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) expert, his research focuses on bovine milk-derived sEVs-based monitoring of bovine leukemia virus (BLV)-infected cattle with high BLV transmission risk and onset of enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL). In the last couple of years, Dr. Rahman has been doing fascinating work in this research field and exploring a number of mRNA and protein biomarkers in milk sEVs from BLV-infected cattle with high BLV transmission risk. These biomarkers in milk sEVs would be useful for monitoring of the clinical stages of the BLV infection and the onset of EBL in cattle. Importantly, Dr. Rahman’s established technique could open a new door of sEVs research other than the use of conventional blood tests due to the simplicity and robustness that allows anyone to easily collect test materials from dairy farms. The novel technology developed by Dr. Rahman could be used to monitor other infectious and non-infectious diseases affecting both humans and wild animals, thereby advancing the one health concept internationally. Dr. Rahman has published more than 35 scientific and scholarly publications in many internationally reputed journals such as PloS One, Viruses, Data in Brief, Scientific Reports, Membranes, Animals, Frontiers in Microbiology, Pathogens, Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, Poultry Science, and so on. Taken together, these innovative approaches could be applied globally to prevent and control infectious diseases of cattle to achieve and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2 (no hunger) and 9 (increase industry, innovation, and infrastructure). Dr. Rahman has vast academic knowledge and laboratory experience in molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, and parasitology that is extremely applicable in many research areas regardless of the country. In the future, Dr. Rahman could be a counterpart of many international research collaborations, which will intensify and deepen research, allowing Bangladesh and other countries to strengthen and improve their domestic and wildlife ecology, biodiversity, and combat potential diseases, and help conscious the society peoples. Dr. Rahman’s promising ideas and expertise could be vital in the academic and research area for the advancement of a new scientific outcome and the exchange of scientific views with other underdeveloped countries in the Asia-Pacific region. As a mission and vision of SAU for the fostering of young researchers and the establishment and achievement of international quality education and research for students, this is an opportunity to globalize education and research utilizing the expertise and talents of researchers in SAU.
