Biography

Dr. Sarker Mohammed Ibrahim khalil is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fish Health Management, Sylhet Agricultural University. He completed B.Sc. Fisheries (Hons.) and M.S. in Aquaculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh. Then he earned his second M.Sc. from prestigious MER consortium (http://merconsortium.eu/) and attended University of Bordeaux, France; University of Liege, Belgium; University of the Basque Country, Spain and University of Southampton, UK. Afterward he pursued his doctoral degree (PhD in Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology) from University of Udine, Italy. His doctoral research focused in fish immunology and vaccination entitled "Insights on immune and inflammatory responses of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) affected by Lactococcus garvieae or submitted to vaccination against lactococcosis". He has been awarded best PhD thesis award by the Italian Fish Pathological Society (SIPI; https://www.sipi-online.it/premi/) in their 28th conference which held at University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy. This is a prestigious award for PhD students who completed their PhD in Italian universities. During his stays in Europe for MSc and PhD, and attending different universities, he received several training and summer/winter courses which helped him to equip with modern technologies. His main research interests are fish disease, immunology, vaccine development and pathology which can be achieved through conventional techniques (histology); cellular (biochemical enzyme and protein detection) and molecular (gene transcription and sequencing). So far he has published more than 40 research articles in international and national peer reviewed journals. He is also a reviewer for a number of international and national journals, made numerous presentations (oral/poster) at aquaculture, fish disease and health related conferences around the world.
