|Mr. Md. Jakiul Islam|
|B.Sc. Fisheries and Aquaculture (BAU), MS in Fisheries Technology (BAU), MSc in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Environment (Belgium) & Doctoral Researcher, University of Bremen, Germany|
I did my BSc in Fisheries Science and subsequently MSc in Fisheries Technology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangladesh. In 2016, I finished another MSc in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management from your Oceans and lakes consortium (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Ghent University and Antwerp University, Belgium). Being a graduate of Aquaculture and Marine Science, I had the opportunity to learn about fish biology, fish physiology, shellfish biology and physiology, metabolomics, aquaculture and genetics, physiology and stress response. During my study period, I took different courses like fish and shellfish physiology, metabolism and biochemistry special emphasis on environmental and chemicals stress physiology of fishes and shrimp that enthralled me much. I was impressed to learn the enormous techniques of physiological stress response and mitigation measure as well. I learned how different factors play major role fish body and why it varies. Those learnings enriched my understanding of problems and solution prospects to various stressors to fish. I found these areas are fascinating and become interested to study further on this cheerful functional and applied biology. I enjoy solving challenging problems related to the aquatic environment with particular emphasis on reasons for changing water body productivity in the natural, semi-natural and man-made environment. I was a member of a campus study group where we collect difficult and non-standard problems from our surrounding environment and try to solve them. For my two MSc degrees, I did extensive fieldwork to collect fish-shrimp samples, soil, water, fish feed ingredients and processed them in the lab. I got skilled to use HPLC, LCMS/MS, GCMS, and TLC. In addition to these, I gained significant knowledge of statistics to deal with the large dataset I had. I become skilled in using “SPSS” and “R” software. At present, I am working as a Doctoral Researcher at ZMT-Bremen, AWI-Bremerhaven, Germany since October 2018. After completion of my Ph.D. I will back in teaching and start research in this field. Subsequently, I envision to train young colleagues and students of my institute in this field of research. If you need to know more, please don't hesitate to contact me.
