Biography

Dr. Shamima Nasren is an Associate Professor at Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh in Fish Biology and Genetics Department, Fisheries Faculty. She did her PhD in Aquaculture (Molecular systematic) for the research on, “Morphometric and phylogenetic analysis of medium-sized barbs of Western Ghats, Karnataka, India”. Her findings are useful to resolve the ambiguities among native Western Ghats fishes. As an undergraduate student at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), Mymensingh, Shamima studied different aspects of fish biology and genetics. She acquired a NSICT fellowship award, offered by Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology (MOST), Bangladesh for completed M.S. research on “Genetic variation and differentiation in the stinging catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch), populations assessed by heterologous microsatellite DNA markers” in Fisheries Biology and Genetics from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Shamima had successfully completed several national projects as principal investigator and co-principal investigator; also attended several trainings, conferences and workshops (national and international). She had published more than thirty papers in national and international journals. She has a genuine interest and passion in the research area like population genetics in fish, molecular systematic with DNA barcoding, morphometric study with Truss network and also want to contribute her hard work and persistence in fish selective breeding, SNP, genotyping, genomics studies.
