Biography

Dr. Mozammel Hoque is working as a Professor in the Department of Agronomy and Haor (Wetland) Agriculture at Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet, Bangladesh. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Honours) in 2001, Master of Science in Agronomy degrees in 2005, and Master of Science in Biotechnology in 2009 from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh-2202, Bangladesh. After graduation, Mr. Hoque started his job carrier as a Scientific Officer in Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute in 2005. Later, he moved to Sylhet Agricultural University in 2008 as a Lecturer in the Department of Agronomy and Haor Agriculture. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2010 and Associate Professor in 2017 in the same department. At that time, he also served for the Department of Crop Botany and Tea Technology as a Chairman. He won a prestigious MEXT: Monbusho fellowship (Japanese Government Scholarship) as a research student for pre-doctoral and doctoral study in 2013. He successfully completed his doctoral study in September 2017 from Laboratory of Plant Breeding, Faculty of Agriculture, Niigata University (NU), Japan. Instantly, he joined as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the same laboratory under the funding of JSPS young researchers’ grant 2017 and carried out his research up to March 2018. Later, He has joined as a researcher (equivalent to Associate Professor) in the Faculty of Agriculture, NU, Japan for one year (July 2018 to June 2019) under the funding of Grants in aid for Challenging Exploratory Research, JSPS, Japan. During the period of PhD and Postdoctoral study, he conducted research on “Genetic analysis of tuberous organ development in Brassica spp.”, “Development allele specific MAS for fusarium yellowing resistance in Brassica oleracea”, and Characterization of male sterile gene TDF1 in Lilium spp. He also worked in different research groups and published several peer-reviewed articles in different SCI-indexed international journals at that time. As a part of his postdoctoral work, he has jointly lead an international study tour of Niigata University students. He has participated in different national and international conferences as an oral/poster presenter in Australia, France, Japan, and Malaysia. He has organized an international IPM Symposium as an Office Secretary cum Master of Ceremony (MC) in Niigata University, Japan in 2015. He also visited China, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand. He is a life/active member of many national and international professional organizations like the Japanese Society of Breeding, Bangladesh Agronomy Society, Bangladesh Seed Science Society, and Agricultural Institution of Bangladesh. His research interest is Molecular Biology, Crop Physiology, Resistance Breeding, and Seed Science. After finishing his study and research in Japan, he returned to the Department of Agronomy and Haor Agriculture, Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet, Bangladesh. Now, he is also serving as a Chairman of the Department.
