Department of Soil Science

Department of Soil Science is one of the oldest departments of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. The department is dedicated to teaching soil science subjects to undergraduate and post graduate students. There has been a significant increase in the areas of specialization, laboratory facilities and number of courses offered over the years in this department. So far 35 students have been awarded Master of Science (Soil Science) degree form this department. There are 3 professors, 3 associate Professors, 1 assistant professor and 4 lecturers in this department.
OBJECTIVES

  1. To carry out the fundamental and applied research on soils especially in soil physics, soil fertility, macro, secondary and micronutrients, agricultural chemicals, farm and industrial wastes, soil pollution and contamination and crop modeling.
  2. To develop soil based technologies for the increased biomass production in the agricultural lands, degraded lands, waste lands, polluted and contaminated lands.
  3. To offer the courses in the different disciplines of Soil Science for the undergraduate degree programmes in Agriculture and Masters programmes in Soil Science

VISION

  1. Development of soil test based fertilizer recommendations for agricultural crops.
  2. Optimization of Micronutrients for vegetables.
  3. Development of land resource management techniques for coastal soil.
  4. Development of quality indicators and testing methods for organic manures, fertilizers under organic farming.
  5. Fertilizer management for improved nutrient use efficiency.
