The objective of the Department of Agronomy is to generate and disseminate knowledge in various fields of crop science for the development of tropical agriculture. The mission of the Department of Agronomy at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, integrate and apply knowledge about crop plants that are grown for food, feed and the general benefit of humankind. Through the integration of teaching, research and extension/outreach efforts, we find and disseminate answers to problems and discover opportunities concerning efficiency and sustainability of production, improvements in quality, and methods for safe and environmentally-sound practices. We work to ensure that agricultural systems and products in Bangladesh, the USA, and international communities are able to meet rapidly-changing current needs and those of future generations.
The department is committed in achieving this by providing quality education in a broad spectrum of courses. The Agronomy Department provides progressive and relevant undergraduate, graduate and Training programs; conducts high impact fundamental and applied research at multiple scales to ensure that our science addresses immediate problems and anticipates future challenges; actively engages partners in the public and private sectors; and contributes to the development of the national and international agenda for research and education.
The department consists of highly qualified staff members with expertise in various disciplines. There are 14 teachers, 1 section officers and 7 supporting staffs in this department. In combination with well-equipped laboratories and field a wide range of sophisticated instruments, the department offers courses and conduct research related to agronomic crops. |
